What is your earliest memory?
A fluffy dog, coming at my face, all fur and fangs. I hugged it as I went down. I didn't realize I should be upset until I heard my Mom shouting.

When were you happiest?
Can't recall exactly. Possibly riding passenger seat, playing map-reader and DJ while touring down a lightless highway at some stupid o'clock in the morning.

Which living person do you most admire, and why?
Right now? Two very different men with the name 'Lee'. For the lovely way they fill out a suit.

What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?
My inability to fill out a man's suit?

What is the trait you most deplore in others?
Lack of decent suits? Kidding.

What was your most embarrassing moment?
It was at NY-Comic Con, some years back, admitting to being overwhelmed, flu-ridden and drunk when I should have gone barhopping with a certain someone instead. Destiny missed.

Property aside, what's the most expensive thing you've bought?
Probably the shameful amount of DVD-R's I've burnt through. It adds up.

What would your super power be?
To put people off, I mean I know I do something of that now without meaning to but I mean intentionally and to specific people. Inspectors, kin, ex's, loud neighbors, etc. With a snap of the fingers they'd just be teleported to mars or something. Or down the toilet.

What makes you unhappy?
Liars. (Especially when they lie to themselves.)

What do you most dislike about your appearance?
Right now, I'm covered in bug bites. No idea where they all came from! Upsetting, waking up finding yourself half-ate...

If you could bring something extinct back to life, what would you choose?
Firefly. Heh.

Who would play you in the film of your life?
Firstly; I'd have to be animated. And B) Frank Oz!

What is your most unappealing habit?
Laughing inappropriately, 'specially when people are crying at me. Children mostly.

What is your favorite smell?
Freshly made New York Pizza. Preferably a Sicilian pie. And a Stewart's Cream Soda. That's lush and I'm not even a foodie. More often than not, I think mastication is a sin.

What is your favorite book?
Franny and Zooey... or Good Faeries Bad Faeries depending on how the day goes down.

What would be your fancy dress costume of choice?
One of them Dandies... or cyber floof.

What is the worst thing anyone's said to you?
Dunno, having grown up in NY it could be anything. Quite possibly everything.

Cat or dog?
Lynx maybe. More likely a werewolf.

Music. Some 60,000 artists downloaded and counting. :)

What do you owe your parents?
Smiles maybe. I didn't do that much while growing up. I meant to.

Not a one. In fact I have a growing list of peoples I wish I'd spit in the face of instead.

Who would you invite to your dream dinner party?
Today; Boober Fraggle. Tomorrow; possibly Wakko Warner or maybe Gonzo. I like them weirdoes.

Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
Possibly the word 'anyway' as a segue for just about everything awkward. Or a certain effin' expletive.

What is the worst job you've done?
Receptionist. I was fine running a massive call-center, solving problems and being effective, but it's the being polite with no purpose that made me sick. And I only had to do it for half an hour. Well more like ten minutes once I figured out how to set up the machine to forward everyone to voicemail.

When did you last cry, and why?
Often to do with my best-friend's passing, and whenever that grief-like feeling strikes.

What is the closest you've come to death?
I picnic in graveyards. Surely that counts.

What song would you like played at your funeral?
Some sort of sing along, The Song That Never Ends, (cuz it goes on an on my friend)... No, all lies. You always end a decent live show on Yellow Ledbetter don't you.

How would you like to be remembered?
I think I'd like to be forgotten but I can't recall why...

What is the most important lesson life has taught you?
Wear protection at all times, or at least a cup.

Wings vs. Tails

And so ensues an epic 3-block chase sequence, accompanied with billowing black attire, ricocheting off trees and smaller garden walls, dramatic drop-and-rolls and some 16 squealing racing children. :D

*I should point out. Gracie won that foot race, although it was only by three strides and with a block-and-a-half head start.

Hello.

Went m.i.a. for perfectly legitimate reasons.

Id here...

...has been ill & misdiagnosed for a little over a year. After a particularly graphic incident (at the very beginning of a very long) labor-day weekend, I rushed her to the animal-hospital. After a week of tests they performed a painful surgery to remove stones from her belly. She's finally home, de-sutured and in tip-top ninja-kat form.

Also, randomly I'm suddenly moving house! Having kept residence in the same apartment (on-and-off) since childhood, its both exciting and hella-random. :D

So, due to impending cat-bills-of-doom + scary transition to a new home/work environment, I've thinking of having my annual year-end Art Sale! early! This works for so many reason because;

keeps me from going stir-crazy
happy kitty with new expensive diet
if your going to New York Animefest, I can deliver art stuffs in person
makes holiday shopping maddeningly more efficient, what with advance notice and time to package & ship things, etc.

*The other thing this would help with is themes. 2009 nearing it's implosive end, I'm searching for ideas for what to put on a 2010 calender.

I was stopped Wednesday morning by three teens (not kids, young adults) whilst wearing my PJ's and groggily nursing a coffee. They gigglingly asked, "Can I see your fangs?". To which I snared "What. Fangs." and sent them skittering away, knee-deep in apologies. That normally only happens to me at Conventions, not on the corner of my block.

But you really know the world is infected when your 4-year-old charge hovers at the front-door when a neighbor comes to call and asks (instead of "Who is it?") -

"Is it Mommy?"
"No, it's a little boy."
"Oh. Just like The Little Vampire. Okay!"

Then bounces away wearing a pillowcase as a cape.

I'm not really minding though since it brings us this...

Weekend of April 24-26, 2009 - Was Kids Comiccon. We started out the day with upward of 7 kids and ended up with 2 (unless you count tier_luren, then it felt more like 5.)

Aria (Niece, Age 7) had a bad cold but insisted on attending. Of course, she fell asleep during goraina & yaytime's panel, but I'm sure that was the fever and not a judgment on her part.

She did wake up in time to demand Chibi's!

We turned up early @ Jim Hanely's Universe for the FCHS signing (with Author: Vito & Artist: Ronnie), wherein the game was how many ways can you make a cousin snort/laugh before her adoring public.

Somehow the workmen (no longer referred to as the 'repair' men) managed to bash up the phone jack in my kitchen, leaving me with no phone and no internets. Soonest they can have a technician here to make with the fixin' is Feb 10th.. of course, by then I will be in Florida. So, if anyone needs to get a hold of me, I suggest tackling me at NYComicCon or re-discovering the lost art of smoke signals.

With the entire apartment freshly painted, all furniture is piled in precariously centered positions throughout my home. The Living Room/Studio for instance, now can only be entered through a wide clock wise route; you avoid the tilting footrest, turning right bypassing foreboding stained-glass geisha, move along the lane of kitty paraphernalia, turning right again passing the nook o' doom to quickly turn right one last time and finally gain entrance to the 'Nest of Solitude'. Once here its truly divine. With every pillow in the house padding whats left of the daybed making the phone, computer, TV, videos games, bookshelf, art desk and toy rack all with in 'yawning stretch' reach. As well as every comfy blanket in the house mounted on top there is almost no reason to leave. Ever.

The sudden influx of frozen weather is keeping the workers from being able to carry in the supplies needed to level and rebuild the bedroom floors, so its been declared a none work day. (YAY!) The draw back of living at the top of the hill. If I lived at the bottom, we could have pieced together a makeshift a ramp and sledded things through. My cats would never recover. It'd be awesome! Maybe I'm having just a bit too much fun building pathways and forts out of furniture, hmm.

Any who, just got my NYComicCon badge(s) in the mail (after duck-n-rolling out the cat entrance of computer and phone wires) and found myself startled to realize it's next week, not this week. I really am incapable of dealing with numbers in any shape and capacity. This brings me back to Calendars! If I don't order my 2009 soon, I may never survive the Labyrinth.

I have people poking at my home. They will be doing so all week. She's been needing a facelift for some time now, it's all very exciting, in a head-achy sort of way. So, to be sure I'm not to forgetful I'll list a few things worth noting.

NY ComicCon is a go!* Deliberating on which kid(s) to bring.**
Leaving on the Feb 9th to Florida for ceremonious things. Back on the 17th.
Thinking of having an art-sale to keep me busy whilst I'm away....

Guess whats? I've got a President I can respect. Never thought I'd see the day. Also, I voted for him. Equally shocking realization, each and every single morning.

Since I've never made a Holiday Card, this is the closest thing I could think of. Call it a Festive Warning: Regardless of the season, THIS is an idiotic way to introduce an important friend/companion to your massively judgmental Mother. Its never as funny as it seemed in your head and it will bite everyone on the ass for years to come. >_<

The task being 'write down 5 things about you that people might find surprising'. Not sure if 'surprising' is the right word, perhaps 'previously unknown' would better fit. It probably would have been a harder task to 'write 5 things about me that are not surprising' as I tend to offend.

Was expected to be a boy at birth. I was "Mathew Alexander" up until the minute of.
Never had a first step but had a first run - away from my Dad, screaming bloody murder when he came home from work one day. Nothing prompted this reaction.
Never had a first word but I had a first sentence - "Turn The Radio On!" shouted over my parents bickering in the car on the way to their house of worship one warm and shiny Sunday.
Was born with a Witch's lock, (a streak of gold-blond at the crown of my head). Funnily enough, not the reason I started dying my hair obscene colors but sort of the reason why I have to maintain it. I get asked 'is that your natural color' a whole lot less often now.
Maintain a personal best of having 30 places to call home, in the span of a year. I was 16. (The only list I carry more pride in than my 'Wife' list.)

It has been a while, hasn't it. I'll be booking a flight in a couple of hours, but I need the extra $200 to cover taxes. Its insane that taxes is nearly as much as the flight.. I suppose that because its so last minute.

I first spoke with Rebecca Mello in the fall of 1998 through a variety of friends made on the Message Boards at Garbage.Com. She stood out then for the same reason she stands out to me now; she was a voice of reason when the crazy came a'courtin.

Although I wouldn't meet her face-to-face for another year and a half there wasn't a day that went by where she wasn't somehow a touchstone of calm for me. It's been 10 years and that hasn't changed. We'd go months without speaking and then suddenly have daily phone-calls that lasted till one or the both of us passed out.

Becca was eclectic and passionate, soft-spoken and always surprising. She was subtle and musical, artistic and very wise for her years. She was a Sage in Powerpuff Girl packaging ("Buttercup" she'd specifically say)... meaning that she was tiny but heroic and life gave her enough adversities to prove the comparison true. I never understood how people could walk along their daily lives and miss what a force she was. She was terminally modest, quick to forgive and so very slow to anger... that used to drive me nuts!

We complimented each other well despite being seemingly opposites. I taught her to speak out and she taught me to calm down. Through knowing one another we discovered wondrous things about ourselves...and found a world between us that made more sense than apart.

When I tell stories, as I often do, she's always a part of them ... Hell, I wouldn't have had the voice to tell stories without her. She's a governing force in my life... and what I miss most is not having her on my next adventure, to read my next comic, to draw strength and inspiration from or to illicit tearful laughs from.

She was much more than a friend, she was probably my favorite person... I'm proud to have loved her, prouder still to have been loved by her.

If anyone thinks something as common place as Death is going to stop that, now... than they've underestimated her yet again.

Regrettably I'm a patient person. I take a lot of hits to the chin before I rant... and then I rant and rant and rant tirelessly until things are resolved. And honestly if I'm pushed to the point to ranting, dear world, you deserve what's coming.

But I realize now, I post more often the rants than the resolutions. So, concerning my previously ~~subject~~ rant, I'm (happily) obliged to report on Con Anti-Harassment Project!

This isn't to say 'oh, something is being done, so I can sit back and feel secure'. Exactly the opposite! Something is being done because we're doing it!

So, Go, Poke-Prod, Contribute, RePost. Inform the masses... thanks for reading and for the little peace of mind that's granted me. ^_^

Conventions can't completely eliminate harassment. They can be prepared to act upon it when it occurs, and send a clear message to harassers that they are not welcome.

Comics oughta be fun. Comic book conventions ought to, as well. But as long as harassment goes on and there is no clear-cut official written rules on convention behavior and what to do in circumstances or physical or mental assault, our hobby runs the risk of alienating and endangering those within it.

There is something about crowds in the thousands that makes a certain sort of person fall to their baser instincts. They become animals. They are easily facilitated by mass social irresponsibility and the negligence of applying something as common as courtesy.

This doesn't just disgust me. It angers me. At the sheep-like behavior of the victims as well as the victimizers. I know I'm unreasonable when I'm angry; it's why I don't got to big cons anymore, it's why I don't attend festivals, its why I don't go to Venues/Theaters without being fully aware of exits and travel options in the likelihood that I'll be leaving in a hurry or traveling home alone. And I'm a pretty ~~ballsy~~ self-reliant person. Smarter still, I travel in groups. Am I paranoid? Yes. Does that mean I'm in the wrong? Sadly, no.

I've been at Jones Beach amphitheater, mid-day, fully lit, more than half-empty and have chucked garbage, plastic bottles and soda cans at the heads of middle-aged men, pressing in on adolescent females, wearing ill-advised clothes they probably saved their allowance up for weeks just to look good for their favorite band. When my venomous temper could be marginally assuaged, several many minutes later, I lied to security and reported the men in Rows-Blah, Seat-Blah, has tried to sell me weed. I knew if I said they were pushing drugs they'd immediately be evicted and if I'd said they were dancing scandalously close to the fourteen year-olds nothing would have been done.

This is just an example with a happy ending. There are many-many more. Comic-Con's & Otakons of the past being house to worst of them. I would get angry, lash out and do something sinister to the culprits, never regretting it but never feeling good about it either. In the end, what did I do? I stopped attending conventions. Did this solve the problem? Sadly, no.

There has to be an even medium. Turning a blind-eye isn't an option...neither is going into a blind rage. This isn't a feminist thing, it's a humanist thing. Because we are human first. We should start acting like it. Cross Post. ReBlog. Do Something. please.

Just finished the last in the Not : OZ series. My brother, tier_luren... the Lounging Monkey? (because he can't be arsed to fly ^^;)

He does make for a good monkey.
He does own wings that tiny... tinier actually, if I recall, they're one inch big.
This was meant to be a welcome home gift, only he's left again.
He may never see this.
