Wings vs. Tails

  • Nov. 10th, 2009 at 12:44 AM
celeverly disguised as an adult
Lil Coco: Val, I like your wings!
Vulz: I haven't got wings; I've got a tails.
Lil Gabby: ((checks)) You have a tail?
//We stop at a red-light on the crowded corner of the school. 7 others kids are also there.//
Vulz: Tails. This is a dress coat. The split in the back creates Tails.
Lil Gabby: Oh. Why are you wearing a dress coat?
Vulz: A Girl can wear a suit, goddamn it! AND I can wear a suit better then most men, so there!
7-O.Kids: ((giggle))
//The light changes. We 5 start to cross. Them 7 follow.//
Lil Gabby: But why does the Coco think they're wings?
Vulz: Oh, right. Watch this.
And so ensues an epic 3-block chase sequence, accompanied with billowing black attire, ricocheting off trees and smaller garden walls, dramatic drop-and-rolls and some 16 squealing racing children. :D

*I should point out. Gracie won that foot race, although it was only by three strides and with a block-and-a-half head start.

Who says Mondays have to be boring?
Tomorrow's Parent/Teachers Conference: I'm thinking... Fedora, maybe a sword cane.... or a Browncoat. I can go either way really.

BLING!

>:D

A jewelry designer contacted Cassie a while ago about doing a limited edition run of rings, necklaces and wrist cuffs based on the Mortal Instruments, the go ahead was given and she opened an Etsy shop: www.hebelmet.etsy.com

Cassie and I turned down getting any portion of the proceeds in favor of them going a charity (Reading Is Fundamental, which is a literacy program for children). :D

I am so getting me a pendant, because Awesome fans are just AWESOME!

META [Sidhe]
In no particular order, these are the requests I've received and made room in my crazy-schedule for:
To Do List
  1. Bleach Commission
  2. FF7 OT3 Sketch
  3. Dragon Design
  4. AI sketches
  5. Portraits for Frances
  6. Hanabi+Konohamaru sketch
  7. Doodle for Evonne
  8. Genesis (?)
  9. Character(s) for Michael
  10. Character(s) for Davey

I'm moving this very as-we-speak-end and have the cable/phone/internet guy due in at the new place between 2-4pm on Monday. So this is where I need to cap it for now; I'll still take commissions request well after the house move, so if you missed your chance not to worry.

I'll soon be begging for your attention again when the next Vet Bill comes in. XD
Still haven't decided on a theme for 2010 -->GO, Vote People!! Make up my mind for me ^^;

Q's & A's

you are not your lj
Hello.

Went m.i.a. for perfectly legitimate reasons. Specifics )
tl;dr - new house + fixed cat = Art Sale!;
  • $10 busts and/or chibis
  • $15 sketches
  • +$5 for additional person(s)
  • +$whatever shipping might cost should you need it sent.

I'm can only take requests till Friday. That's when the phone & cable guys are supposed to transfer things to the new place. So, accessibility is wonky after then.

(Feel free to link to or re-post accordingly, you know if you like saving kittens, feeding artists and shiny new homes!)

Stop That
Ah, Sing it Sheldon!
Friday my website was reported for having malware and disappeared for a bit, which although not being true, scared the crap out of me. Fixed now. Breathing easier, finally.
other uncouth things: What with their new image, watching SciFi Channel coverage of SD Comic Con is very off-putting.

Since SyFy is to Syphilis, like H.I.V. is to doing the Hivy.
Its... Just wrong.

The only thing better than Jo Chen getting back to Comicking (instead of just Illustrating), is that she did it with Joss + Lots and Lots of Crack! = Rub-A, Pant! )

Otherwise known as Buffy Summers Vs. Edward Cullen. Enjoy!

If anyone, anywhere, does anything nearly as cool as getting my designs tattooed on them, PLEASE share.
Stuck. Sort of speechless. In grinning power-crazed creative amusement here. And I could really get used to it.

Vampirism; Made better by Placebo

  • Jun. 26th, 2009 at 1:02 PM
APPROVES [Supernatural]
I was stopped Wednesday morning by three teens (not kids, young adults) whilst wearing my PJ's and groggily nursing a coffee. They gigglingly asked, "Can I see your fangs?". To which I snared "What. Fangs." and sent them skittering away, knee-deep in apologies. That normally only happens to me at Conventions, not on the corner of my block.

But you really know the world is infected when your 4-year-old charge hovers at the front-door when a neighbor comes to call and asks (instead of "Who is it?") - Then bounces away wearing a pillowcase as a cape.

I'm not really minding though since it brings us this...
*Trailer, as all things, Made Better by Placebo.
Also. Happy B-Day Coco(s)!

SketchBlog on Tumblr!

sleep is the enemy
So, for various reason but mostly to spite my carpal tunnel's, I'm now keeping a Sketch Blog! :boogie:

I unearthed a crap load of old sketchbooks, scanned them, uploaded and backdated them, so there are some things that are also in the scrap section but A LOT that isn't/won't be.
And for a very specific someone ([info]anemay) who requested a very specific thing, Enjoy!

My Jack Is Fucked

PARENTAL ADVISORY
No pun intended.

Somehow the workmen (no longer referred to as the 'repair' men) managed to bash up the phone jack in my kitchen, leaving me with no phone and no internets. Soonest they can have a technician here to make with the fixin' is Feb 10th.. of course, by then I will be in Florida. So, if anyone needs to get a hold of me, I suggest tackling me at NYComicCon or re-discovering the lost art of smoke signals.

If not, see you in two weeks.

ART SALE
Also, to keep me busy whilst in Florida, avoiding a family wedding, I'll be doing another round of $10 Sketch Commissions. ($15 if you'd like it sent to you). I need something to keep me sane when access is limited, alcohol is few & far between and family members are a-plenty. Instead of capping off slots, I'll just be just be taking requests for one week. After that I'll praying the buffer lasts.

(FYI - outstanding commissions, of course, have priority. ^_^ Take pity on a city girl and forward/pimp/link to your friends. Please.)

Happy Year of the OX!

Big Loan [Sidhe]
year of the ox
I have people poking at my home. They will be doing so all week. She's been needing a facelift for some time now, it's all very exciting, in a head-achy sort of way. So, to be sure I'm not to forgetful I'll list a few things worth noting.
  • NY ComicCon is a go!* Deliberating on which kid(s) to bring.**
  • Leaving on the Feb 9th to Florida for ceremonious things. Back on the 17th.
  • Thinking of having an art-sale to keep me busy whilst I'm away....
  • ...only [info]ali_wildgoose & [info]pinkfinity should really get back to me with specifics, since they're my only outstanding (which I haven't heard from)***.
  • Guess whats? I've got a President I can respect. Never thought I'd see the day. Also, I voted for him. Equally shocking realization, each and every single morning.
  • [info]akickinthehead? Dude. While I predicted this, I'm still greatly saddened by it.Waaaah!
  • Sending postcards out late, but I made a variety of three kinds, so despite this image no one knows what they'll get. Stealthy!
  • This year? Already masses better than the last... and its just begun!
*Might have to miss Friday due to house pokings.
**How to choose? RL should have poll options for all things.
***Outstanding Commissions is the ban of my existence. Can't sleep, can't eat, muses'll eat me.

And a Merry Christmakwanzaakah to you!*

Let It Snow [2Nana]
Since I've never made a Holiday Card, this is the closest thing I could think of. Call it a Festive Warning: Regardless of the season, THIS is an idiotic way to introduce an important friend/companion to your massively judgmental Mother. Its never as funny as it seemed in your head and it will bite everyone on the ass for years to come. >_<

*Greeting should in no way be construed to guarantee or warrant happiness or other good feelings during Greeting Period, or warrant or guarantee an acceptable holiday. By accepting Greeting, Receiver expressly agrees that he or she assumes the risk for his or her own holiday. 5. Things Meme

  • Nov. 25th, 2008 at 3:05 PM
META [Sidhe]
The task being 'write down 5 things about you that people might find surprising'. Not sure if 'surprising' is the right word, perhaps 'previously unknown' would better fit. It probably would have been a harder task to 'write 5 things about me that are not surprising' as I tend to offend.
  1. Was expected to be a boy at birth. I was "Mathew Alexander" up until the minute of.
  2. Never had a first step but had a first run - away from my Dad, screaming bloody murder when he came home from work one day. Nothing prompted this reaction.
  3. Never had a first word but I had a first sentence - "Turn The Radio On!" shouted over my parents bickering in the car on the way to their house of worship one warm and shiny Sunday.
  4. Was born with a Witch's lock, (a streak of gold-blond at the crown of my head). Funnily enough, not the reason I started dying my hair obscene colors but sort of the reason why I have to maintain it. I get asked 'is that your natural color' a whole lot less often now.
  5. Maintain a personal best of having 30 places to call home, in the span of a year. I was 16. (The only list I carry more pride in than my 'Wife' list.)
nicked/tweaked from [info]onezumi
On behalf of seasonal festivities; 5 Things I'm Thankful For in no particular order:
  1. People, being given as 'Presents' (Ex. Rachel to me on X-mas. Myself to Bex & Allie on b-day. Etc.)
  2. High-Pain Thresholds (along with access to sealed needles and sterile ink).
  3. Story-Tellers; of every background, name, shape and size.
  4. Art Stuffs (the divining rod in my life)*
  5. Not blood, but family... and the distance they keep.

Honestly, I'm not as awful as that last one comes off. (Family understands that, blood not so much.)

If I were to list a thing 6. it'd be that my fever just broke. Now I'd like to finally get back to my lovely commissions.
*Speaking of them 'lovely commissions' & 'Art Stuff being the divining in rod in my life', nothing personifies this better than meeting Neil Gaiman last month and having these one hand for him to sign. Alas, I only got to keep one. The others were lovingly traded for board & event tickets. Such is the life.

♥ Hope everybody is keeping safe, I'll see you on the other side.

It has been a while, hasn't it. I'll be booking a flight in a couple of hours, but I need the extra $200 to cover taxes. Its insane that taxes is nearly as much as the flight.. I suppose that because its so last minute.

In any case; this means EMERGENCY Art-Sale. I can do twenty $10 sketches... or something of that variety.

Color would be minimal. Traditional media only (meaning pencils, pens and whatever copics I can fit into the overhead) since I can do those on the road and when I get back for MangaNEXT.

If anyone is crazed enough to still want chibi's, I can work that but it'd have to wait till next month when I'm near my computer.

Pay Pal only, (to bhanesidhe @ ohshush . com) since time is of the essence. Any takers? Really, only have three hours to sort these finances out ^^;

Con Anti-Harassment Project Launched.

  • Aug. 25th, 2008 at 6:01 PM
girls are strong
Regrettably I'm a patient person. I take a lot of hits to the chin before I rant... and then I rant and rant and rant tirelessly until things are resolved. And honestly if I'm pushed to the point to ranting, dear world, you deserve what's coming.

But I realize now, I post more often the rants than the resolutions. So, concerning my previously subject rant, I'm (happily) obliged to report on Con Anti-Harassment Project!

This isn't to say 'oh, something is being done, so I can sit back and feel secure'. Exactly the opposite! Something is being done because we're doing it!

So, Go, Poke-Prod, Contribute, RePost. Inform the masses... thanks for reading and for the little peace of mind that's granted me. ^_^
Conventions can't completely eliminate harassment. They can be prepared to act upon it when it occurs, and send a clear message to harassers that they are not welcome.

Taking Initiative
Comics oughta be fun. Comic book conventions ought to, as well. But as long as harassment goes on and there is no clear-cut official written rules on convention behavior and what to do in circumstances or physical or mental assault, our hobby runs the risk of alienating and endangering those within it.

In My Own Experience... )

There has to be an even medium. Turning a blind-eye isn't an option...neither is going into a blind rage. This isn't a feminist thing, it's a humanist thing. Because we are human first. We should start acting like it. Cross Post. ReBlog. Do Something. please.
